Phase 2 – Training the Skills

As much as sales behaviours are learned over time they have to start somewhere. Training is where this foundation gets laid and the strategy is mapped out to the front line. While the sales training and scheduling we provide to our clients is customized to suit their specific requirements, the following is an outline of how the typical rollout of sales training unfolds in many organizations.

In-Class Seminar Training

The training begins with a one-day session with the managers, executive and all those that will be responsible to coach and support the staff post-training. In this first day of the course Essence of Sales Management we outline the role of the manager in leading this sales initiative. We address any obstacles or roadblocks that may hinder the support of the staff post-training and ensure everyone is on the same page and committed to the sales strategy follow up plan.

The next step in the process is to have the staff and management attend the two-day course Selling Skills for Service People-Sales where they are trained in the core sales skills they will need to achieve their goals of increased product sales. Transactional staff (tellers) that have a greater emphasis on spotting opportunities and referring them to another co-worker attend the one-day course Selling Skills for Service People-Teller.

The final day (second day of the Essence of Sales Management) is spent with the managers teaching them how to coach the sales skills they just learned and making sure they are prepared to lead the team in the changes in behaviours that are expected.

Online Training

A Sales Training implementation that takes advantage of our online learning modules is essentially the same as described above with the obvious difference being that the sales skills are taught online. Our online training modules are engaging and effective using a combination of video, onscreen presentation, breakout exercises and quizzes. The managers still participate in the in-class seminar Essence of Sales Management. They participate in the online sales training just as the staff would.
